6° Trail del Marganai Registration Is Now Open

Here we are, we start again, from today registrations are open for the 6th edition of the Trail del Marganai.

Who wants to be the first to sign up?

The competitive distances are three:

and for those who do not want to compete but enjoy the day the non-competitive 11 Km.

The news are many and, just to give one, the 25 Km and 45 Km will pass through the enchanting corner of the coast that is Cala Domestica.

In the coming weeks we will tell you everything.

Pranu Sartu and the Henry Gallery

After less than a kilometer from the starting line, you will cross the Henry Gallery in loc. Planu Sartu, the most important mining facility close to Buggerru.

Excavated in 1865, it was used for the rail transport of ores from the underground to distant washeries. Located 50 meters above sea level and the built-up area of Buggerru, it crosses the local plateau for about a kilometer.

If the original purpose was to facilitate the transport of metals from the local mines to the port of Buggerru, now it turns out to be a place of rare beauty, thanks to the breathtaking sea views it offers.

This passageway dug through the rock is impressive: the size was determined by the use in 1892 of a steam locomotive. It was part of a modern railway network that soon replaced the slow and expensive transport by pack animals, such as mules.

The gallery is a sort of suggestive labyrinth: secured, illuminated and endowed with indications, it is now accessible in complete safety. Its uniqueness consists in a perpetual relationship with the cliff on the sea through its minor tunnels and walkways carved, like windows, in the rock. Thanks to these openings you may enjoy suggestive views of the coast overlooking the sea.

Solidarity 2020

The Marganai Trail has been pursuing some important goals since the very beginning, such as promoting the territory where the competition takes place and support local solidarity projects.

This year we decided to donate one Euro for each registered athlete and one for each pasta party voucher, purchased by those who do not compete.

We also asked all local the accommodation facilities (indicated for free on the ‘Hospitality‘ page), if they deem it appropriate, at the end of the event, to make an additional offer, that will be fully donated to the joint project.

The organization of the competition is not-for-profit, so any positive surplus of this 5th edition will be added to the collected amount.

We asked the associations in Buggerru, who are working with us, to aid in identifying a suitable cause for the donation.
We will take care of publicizing progress of the initiative.

So, if you were still looking for a reason to register, besides the beauty of the itineraries and the desire to join us, having a great time in friendship, remember you can contribute to something worthy!

It is easy to fly to Buggerru

Coming to run the Marganai Trail is simpler than it might seem.
In March it is easy to find a flight at a very affordable price!

The closest airport to Buggerru, a village that will see both the start and the finish of the race on March 15, is Cagliari-Elmas, about 80 kilometers away.

Buying a plane ticket a few weeks in advance allows for substantial savings.

In March the main airlines that connect Cagliari to Italy and the rest of the world are:

  • Alitalia
  • Ryanair
  • Air Italy
  • EasyJet
  • Volotea

Photos Of The New Route

In December and at the beginning of the year we have often been on the new paths that will characterize the 2020 edition of the Marganai Trail.

The first kilometers after the start and the last ones before the arrival are characterized by the sea, the real novelty of this edition. The sea in any weather reveals its beauty and charm. But as we move away from the sea and the influence of the saltiness, the low vegetation is replaced by the forest. Holm oaks, oak and strawberry trees embrace the paths.

This gallery is used to get an idea of what awaits you in Buggerru and in this corner of Sardinia.
