The trail with its four races is set in the Marganai forest and more generally in the Linas/Marganai/Fluminese macro-area located in the south-west of Sardinia, in the new province of Carbonia-Iglesias.
It takes place along routes that pass between abandoned mining villages and naturalistic and archaeological beauties, touching the territories of Buggerru, Fluminimaggiore, Iglesias and Domusnovas.
The Forest is full of very suggestive routes, as well as numerous faunal species and endemic plant species, which are the object of study and observation. Today, in fact, the Marganai forest is part of the “Monte Linas, Marganai-Oridda, Montimannu Natural Park” project, which extends over an area of approximately 22,220 hectares, partly including the municipalities of Domusnovas, Fluminimaggiore, Gonnosfanadiga, Iglesias and Villacidro.
Another breathtaking view is that of the green valley, which surrounds the Temple of Antas, of Punic-Roman origins, dedicated to Sardus Pater. All around there are testimonies (tombs, remains of huts) dating back to the Nuragic era, the most flourishing local prehistoric civilization.
